Article I: Enhancing Patient Care Through Utilizing Interpreter Services
Vanessa Chicas, R.N. (Clinical Nurse II) supported by Dr. Michelle DeCoux Hampton, Interim Executive Director of Research, Quality & Compliance in the Office of Research conducted a quality improvement project through an intervention to increase nurse and healthcare provider use of interpreter services in an inpatient hospital unit. The article was published in Nursing Management in September 2023.
Article I: Dr. Aubrey Florom-Smith presents at the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) Health Policy Conference
In October 2023, Dr. Aubrey Florom-Smith, Nurse Scientist at Stanford Health Care’s Office of Research, presented her poster: “Launching a Diverse and Inclusive Space Nursing Workforce.” The presentation was co-presented with Dr. Cecelia L. Crawford and Dr. Michelle Y. Williams at the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C.
Article II: Voices of Musicians: Virtual Live Bedside Music Concerts in Inpatient Care
Dr. Aubrey Florom-Smith, Nurse Scientist from Stanford Health Care’s Office of Research recently published “Voices of Musicians: Virtual Live Bedside Music Concerts in Inpatient Care” in the journal, Healthcare. Her qualitative study evaluated the impact of the Vital Sounds Initiative (VSI) Project: Music Heals Us (PMHU), a novel virtual concert program delivered between 2020 and 2022. The program consisted of musicians playing music to address patient isolation.
Article I: ORPCS Nurse Scientist Receives Malinda S. Mitchell Honorable Mention for A3 Contributions
Dr. Zaina Alzawad, Nurse Scientist from Stanford Health Care’s Office of Research Patient Care Services, helped create an A3 for the Improving Emergency Department Patient Throughput and Experience by Reducing Length of Stay via Creation of a Virtual Visit Track.
Article II: 2023 FAAN Induction Event of New Fellows in Washington, D.C.
For its 50th anniversary, the American Academy of Nursing (Academy) inducted 253 distinguished nurse leaders in the 2023 Class of Fellows, including Stanford Health Care’s Dr. Dale E. Beatty, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, WCS Caritas Coach®, Dr. Michelle Y. Williams, PhD, RN, and Dr. Cassendra A. Munro, PhD, RN, CNOR.
Article III: Office of Research Patient Care Services Holds First Annual All-Staff Retreat
On December 7 & 8, 2023, Stanford Health Care’s Office of Research Patient Care Services held its first annual All-Staff Retreat. The year’s theme and focus was Joy in Work & Research: Through Innovation, Teams, and Appreciation.
Article IV: ORPCS Nurse Scientist Makes her Mark in Perioperative Research!
In November 2023, the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) held its inaugural Perioperative Nursing Research Symposium with great success. ORPCS Nurse Scientist, Dr. Kyung Mi Kim, was awarded the symposium’s award for Making Your Mark in Perioperative Research and was invited to present her findings at the Expo.
Article V: SHC Office of Research Patient Care Services celebrates 2nd Year of SJSU Nursing Student Interns!
The Office of Research Patient Care Services (ORPCS) welcomed San Jose State University nursing student interns with a celebratory end-of-semester lunch. ORPCS began a mentorship program partnering with San Jose State University’s The Valley Foundation School of Nursing. in 2022.
Article VI: SHC’s Research and Health Equity Holiday Luncheon
To celebrate the holidays, the Stanford Health Care Research and Health Equity leadership team and members of the Stanford Medicine Black Nurses Association dined at the Madera Restaurant at Rosewood Sand Hill in Menlo Park.
